IJP Design Hosts Annual Ian Poulter Invitational

As the number of junior golfers across the UK rises, Ian Poulter is continuing to shine a light on grass roots golf with his annual Invitational tournament, in association with his golf clothing brand, IJP Design and Woburn Golf Club. The Ian Poulter Invitational, now in its eighth consecutive year, will take place on Monday 22nd July 2013 – the Monday immediately after the British Open. The one day invitation-only event will welcome 100 junior players rising the golfing ranks from around the UK and the world, to play competitive golf on the challenging Marquess’Course at Woburn Golf Club. Qualifying credentials require players to be 18 or under on the 1st January 2013 and to play off a 16 handicap or lower. Players will be given a money can’t buy opportunity to share one-on-one time with Ian, who currently ranks number 12 in the Official World Golf Rankings, as he tours the course to give hands-on professional guidance to each individual, as well as top tips and practical advice during the afternoon’s ‘IJP Clinic’. The Invitational is just one example of Ian Poulter’s deep rooted commitment to the development of top junior golfers. Ian commented, “I’m passionate about providing junior golfing talent a platform to develop their skills and experience playing a championship course under competitive conditions. Opportunities like this weren’t available to me when I was growing up and it’s a privilege to share this day with youngsters that have a genuine enthusiasm and commitment to the sport and I’m always impressed by the standard of golf these girls and boys are playing.” At the Invitational, youngsters will also have the opportunity to win a host of exciting additional prizes and the chance to pitch themselves against Poulter in a nearest the pin challenge in Woburn Golf Club’s Performance Centre. The centre boasts the latest GC2 launch monitor and simulator technology providing custom fitting, ball fitting, nearest the pin/longest drive challenges, practice option and the chance to play one of 37 top class golf courses in simulator mode. Jason O’Malley, General Manager at Woburn Golf Club said: “As Ian’s home club, which he has been the Touring Professional at since 2003, we are delighted to host the Ian Poulter Invitational. Entry into the event gets more competitive with each year and it has proved to be one of the great testing grounds for the nation’s top juniors. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the next generation of golfers to experience a championship course with the expert tutelage of a championship golfer.” On the day, each player will be given the opportunity to have their photograph taken with Ian as a personal memento, as well as receiving a fabulous goody bag, with lots of golf-related gifts, including an item from the IJP Design range. Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories, including ‘Best Gross Score and ‘Best Net Score’, as well as for ‘Best Dressed’ and players will be encouraged to tweet about the day and share their experiences. Female golfers will also be given a special opportunity to see the new IJP Design ladies range ahead of its capsule collection launch in September. Ian Poulter launched IJP Design six years ago in July 2007, after being unable to find clothes he wanted to wear on the golf course that both looked good and performed well. The 2013 collections, which include a junior range for children aged 7 to 16, have a focus on high performance technical fabrics and functional features whilst also offering practical tailoring and contemporary design. Junior fans of Poulter will be able to dress just like the golfer by picking their favourites from the junior collection as well as the new ladies capsule collection, which includes the infamous Poulter Tartans as well as a selection of shirts, knitwear and accessories. This year the charity associated with the event is Dreamflight. Ian is a huge supporter of Dreamflight whose purpose is to send seriously ill children on the holiday of a lifetime.
